Atop The Rockpile

Yep, we've done it. Dwight, Penny & Jeff climbed the Rockpile on June 11, 1994. We couldn't have picked a better day. The climb was tough. Very, very, steep. The last attempt Penny & Jeff made was unsuccessful due to weather conditions. It was great at the base, but as we approached the AMC hut, visibility was near zero and the temperature had dropped at least 25 degrees. We were not prepared for that, so we turned back. The climb by the three of us, and our dog Joshua, was a great success. We climbed the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, located near the Cog Railway Base Station. By the time we reached the hut, we were exhausted. The hardest part of the trip was the last mile or so. You could see the summit, but it seemed we would never get there. Completely above the tree line, you could see everything!!! It was a clear, warm day, not typical conditions for the summit. Would we do it again? Maybe. But we have many more trails to conquer, so we'll see. Check out these links and learn more about the Rockpile that is Mt. Washington in New Hampshire....
