Shieling Forest

Peterborough , NH

This small area (47 acres) is packed with diverse and interesting hikes. Shieling Forest is home to the Wildflower Garden , which boasts one of the few yellow lady slippers in the area. Used greatly as an educational area, they are planning many programs. A tree identification area, a logging exhibit where they hope to log one side of a trail and leave the other to show how logging benefits both the trees and the wildlife.

Trails are clear and easy to walk, dogs are allowed on leash.

The forest is managed by The New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands and often has interesting programs and lectures available for a meager $5.00.

The Forest was a gift to the State of New Hampshire by the late Mrs. Elizabeth Yates McGreal.

This is a lovely area, for hiking, cross-country skiing or snow shoeing. Combine it with a trip to Casalis Park and you have a wonderful weekend full of enjoyment.
