Follow NH 118 to the Cardigan State Park entrance. Drive to large parking area where there are picnic tables and limited facilities. This is a very popular trail, probably because it is the shortest route to the summit of Mt. Cardigan. It is groomed and well traveled. The last 1/2 mile or so is gradually ascending ledges and leads to an excellent view of Newfound Lake and the surrounding area.
